Anniversaries of traumatic events can cause those affected to experience heightened anxiety and depression. Reliving this sadness, though painful, is a natural part of healing.

To that end, on the eve of the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center, a live-streamed session of Healing VB: An Expressive Arts Project will be hosted in the MOCA studio by Geoffrey Thompson, PhD, ATR-BC, LCAT; and Lisa Thomas, MS, ATR-P, both of Eastern Virginia Medical School. Other EVMS faculty will join Geoffrey and Lisa in the online session, which will be streamed on Facebook Live where viewers can post reflections and comments.

The session will focus on applying art materials and processes to promote personal expression. And it will include a discussion of other ways to prepare for increased stress around the anniversary and remembrance.
